  1. I actually finished this book yesterday, but I just had to attach a song to it. The Custom of the Country, by Edith Wharton, is about a ruthless social climber who wants everything. Wham’s “Everything She Wants” started playing in my head before I was halfway through, it being a song about that kind of person. http://howlingfrog.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-custom-of-country.html

  2. OK, where is everybody’s music? I am sad. I have finally finished Thomas Pynchon’s V., which was a huge summer project for me, and I pick Procol Harum’s Whiter Shade of Pale to go with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Mb3iPP-tHdA

I explain why in my review. http://howlingfrog.blogspot.com/2014/07/v.html Pynchon and Procol Harum go together in my head.

  3. I am currently reading “Everything Leads to You” by Nina Lacour. And I think “Ready When You Are” by Trapt is fitting, though I am only about 65 pages in, this could change… lol

  4. I just finished The Farm by Tom Rob Smith. For some reason Once In A Lifetime by Talking Heads comes to mind. 🙂
    Great challenge!

  5. Done!

The book I’m using for this challenge is: Falling For Her Fiancé by Cindi Madsen

This is a sweet romance book about best friends, Dani and Wes, who pretend they’re engaged for a while just so they can help each other out, but end up falling in love with each other for real.

I’m really enjoying this story so far, and I cannot wait to see these two together, come on you guys! I just read a scene in which they dance at Wes’s sister wedding and thought it would be perfect for this challenge.

    Here’s the scene: http://cuidadocomodalmata.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/rat-challenge-song.png

The song: It’s a Fluke by Tiago Iorc

The song is so beautiful and romantic (but not over the top romantic or cheesy), plus the lyrics really remind me of Wes and Dani in that moment of the book. They are just so content to be in each other’s arms, even if in the back of their minds they think they are only pretending. They need to get together asap!

  6. Today I started a Victorian mystery by Anne Perry, so here are some London music hall classics to fit the mood: http://youtu.be/khJbffN2yGI

  7. People. Do songs! I want songs!

I was worried about today until I picked up a book of short stories I’m having trouble with. It begged for a Sting song. So here is your Sting song, as my tune of the day: http://youtu.be/C3lWwBslWqg

  8. I’m reading Evil Fairies Love Hair and it reminded me of this funny song called My Hair.

  9. I just read Champion by Marie Lu, and I picked the song Last Kiss by Taylor Swift; specific circumstances in the epilogue made me think of the song but I shouldn’t say more, because even picking this pair feels a bit spoilerish. Well, I explain a little more in my post for the challenge. (http://p7-books.blogspot.pt/2014/07/wicked-wildfire-read-thon-2014.html) Anyway, here’s a link for the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Hx86eqBSos.

  10. I’m reading Go Tell It On the Mountain, so you get a gospel song, “Traveling Shoes”– http://youtu.be/k5sm2lBquzI

  11. I just finished reading Saving June by Hannah Harrington and it is ALL about the music! The main guy in it, Jake, has a not-so-secret obsession with ABBA so I’ll have to go with “Dancing Queen”. Not only would he love it, I feel like it expresses how Harper needs to let loose and be freer with herself. There’s also a great scene where Jake convinces her to dance. I can only imagine what would have happened if this had been playing!

  12. I took yesterday off, but today my song goes with my new book, Wigs on the Green–a comedy from 1935. It is SO 30s. So you get a dance hit, “Okay Toots!” http://youtu.be/yT7TYHAiJUg

  13. I recently finished In the Shadows by Kiersten White. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18527495-in-the-shadows
Two songs, in parts, come to mind toward the end of the book. The first song kicks in about 1/2way through the book and the other mixes in about 3/4 of the ways through.
    1)Rushlow – I Can’t Be Your Friend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SGYYJODq-Y
2)Green Day: “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soa3gO7tL-c

  14. I am reading Wanderlove by Kirsten Hubbard, which is the perfect YA summer read. I am picking Norah Jones’ Come Away with Me for the song. The main character travels to Central America and instead of staying with a tour group, she meets a girl and her brother who take her to all the beautiful backpacking places. Eventually it is just her and the brother and I think there will be a little romance, but it is more about finding yourself and learning to trust again. They travel on the bus, in the rain, and share rooms, but not beds, at least not yet in the book. The song fits both the mood and content of the book and is just beautiful!

  15. I’m currently reading The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. So… I’m going to be awful here. My song pick? Dust in the Wind by Kansas. Yup. It’s about the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, so… The book is kind of boring the pants off of me, so I’m having a little fun with it. Plus, every time I hear this song I giggle because I think of Old School. Double plus…the video is freaking awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH2w6Oxx0kQ

  16. I’m currently reading Spirit Slate Writing and Kindred Phenomena by William E. Robinson. Published in 1898, it a treatise on methods used by fake mediums and spiritualists to produce writing on chalk slates and other minor feats of mentalism. I’ve been reading quite a few books on this subject and about stage magic. In fact, last year I read a biography of Robinson, who was best known as “Oriental” magician Chung Ling Soo. Though American, he was only known as a performer when impersonating a Chinese man. (It was definitely a different world back then…)

My musical choice is “Analyse” by Thom Yorke. It was the closing credits song for the movie The Prestige. It’s a fitting song for that movie and for Robinson as he analyses all the methods of deception.

  17. I think this song, Once Upon a Dream by Lana Del Rey, goes well with Heir to the Shadows by Anne Bishop. Each of them remember about the other one, but they don’t really know everything. The song it’s eerie and the book is also :D. When I read it and this song come on, it just clicks 🙂

  18. I recently finished reading Alienated, and loved it! 🙂 I would pair the song E.T by Katy Perry with the book. Why? Duh. It all about alien love. hehe.

  19. I chose my current read, “The Caller” by Juliet Marillier. I think the song “Demons” by Imagine Dragons goes with the character Flint. I explain why here (it isn’t a very long explanation): http://mylovelysecret.blogspot.pt/2014/07/wicked-wildfire-read-thon-2014-july-22nd.html
