This post was inspired by The Weeping by O’Dell HutchisonThe Weeping has a ghost that tries to contact the main character and get his attention – creepy! You can read the blurb [and see the awesome new cover for the paperback that was just revealed] below and see why you should definitely read it yourself! Bex and I were talking and came up with quite a few stories of things we’d heard about or experienced ourselves – and we’re curious:

Have you, or someone you know, experienced anything paranormal/supernatural or something of that nature?

I have heard many stories of unexplained phenomena that has occurred to members of my family and friends. However, I will share a more personal story of my own.

I was in my second year of high school – but my first year at this new school. It was my first hour class which was Law, I think.  Anyways, we sat around round tables usually 4-5 chairs to each table and the seat I sat in was one table away from the door and up closer to the front but still to the outer edge of the class. The door was behind me.

I was looking up at the front at the overhead which had notes we were writing down. Suddenly, I look over to my left, (which there was a counter with cupboards up top) and enough room to walk between my seat and the counter. I look over and see a dog with blond longerish fur, kind of shaggy, very golden retriever-ish. I see it’s tail in the air with hair hanging down, sort of waving. I’m JUST about to say “who brought the dog?” when I glance back over to take another look and it’s GONE. I thought “oh, the dog must’ve wandered out the door when I had my head turned” so I cautiously asked if anyone else had seen a dog in school that day – particularly in  that class. No one else had seen a dog.

I know I saw a dog, I have no doubt in my mind it must’ve been a ghost dog, for whatever reason. Some people believe that there are certain animals that protect us, like spirit animals, and perhaps this was mine? I’ve no clue, but it felt like a nice dog, I got very good vibes from it. I wasn’t scared in the slightest, I was more surprised to see a dog in the class! Even more surprised when I turned back and it had vanished.

I won’t ever be able to say with any certainty what it was for sure. I wish I knew, I don’t like uncertainties. But I know for sure I will never be able to forget that experience!

 So what about you?

The Weeping

Seventeen-year-old Heath Ingram was driving the night his Jeep careened off the road, killing three of his closest friends. Once a popular, outgoing athlete, Heath now suffers from severe depression and crippling anxiety. His parents decide to send him to stay with his uncle in Rock Harbor, Oregon for the summer, praying that by getting away he will be able to put this awful tragedy behind him.
When Heath starts working at the newly renovated Rock Harbor Opera House, he meets Molly, a young dancer who awakens in him a desire to start over and move on. But, when he begins having visions of a half-burned girl in a white dress, he starts to think he may be slipping even further over the edge.
As the apparent hauntings become more intense, Heath begins to fear for his safety. With the help of his friend Josie, Heath discovers an unsettling secret that ties the mysterious girl to both their families. When two of their friends die unexpectedly, Josie and Heath realize that something, or someone, is after the children of those who wronged Catherine, and they are next.

This post was inspired by The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda. The Hunt introduces us to an entirely different brand of vampire than any in fiction before [at least that I've encountered!] They drool on themselves just at the thought of  anything they desire – especially human flesh and blood. They don’t laugh, instead when something is funny they get an itch on their wrist and feel the need to scratch. Not gonna lie, all these things made them quite funny in my mind. They were harder to take seriously… until it came to what they’d do for a taste of human flesh.. but I digress! It brought to our minds all the various “flavors” of vamps there are in the fiction world and thus our question:

If you had to become a vampire and we gave you the option to choose which kind, which vampire would you want to become? You can pick anything you’ve come across so far!

Now, unlike our last YFIF post featuring The Immortal Rules, even though Fukuda’s vamps are a little more humorous in their behavior I do NOT want to be one of them. They can barely control themselves when it comes to devouring humans, and not only that but they’re SO boring. They don’t laugh or smile or even widen their eyes in surprise. I don’t know about you but my face is EXPRESSIVE I wouldn’t handle a day of a stone face, even if I tried! I wouldn’t WANT to!

So, I think I would choose to be either a vampire from Twilight [I know, sparkly, SHUSH] haha or from the Sookie Stackhouse series. At least those vamps can have fun and can pretty much control their desires. They also can get along with humans enough to live in normal society without causing TOO much of a ruckus, so I’m all for that.

I don’t think it’s TOO much to ask to want to have fun, live in somewhat peace with humans, not to be a human-devouring-machine, and to still be in control of my own mind, be able to laugh, to not DROOL all over myself, and be able to laugh! :D

So what about you, what kind of vampire would you choose to be?

The Hunt Andrew Fukada

Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.

When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

This post was inspired by Croak by Gina Damico. If you haven’t read it I can’t recommend it enough! Lex ends up in Croak for the summer to stay with her Uncle Mort – who she quickly learns is not your average town mayor and Croak is not your normal town. Lex finds out that she’s a grim reaper and the adventure begins! Which leads us to ask:

What would your reaction be if you learned you were a grim reaper; would you accept the task or not?

If being a grim reaper meant I got to live in a world like Croak with all it entails – then I would probably say heck yeah! Although, it would be extremely hard to sever ties with my family… I think that would be the biggest challenge. I think though that I would consider it an honor to do such a meaningful  job for the rest of my life. Plus the perks of Croak and it’s cool technology – and let’s not forget an awesome scythe to cut the fabric of time. If I got that, I think I could hack it. :D

So what about you?

What would your reaction be if you learned you were a grim reaper; would you accept the task or not?

Croak by Gina Damico

Fed up with her wild behavior, sixteen-year-old Lex’s parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than shoveling manure. He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach Lex the family business. She quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. But Lex can’t stop her desire for
justice—or is it vengeance?—whenever she encounters a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again. Will she ditch Croak and go rogue with her reaper skills?

This post was inspired by Pure by Julianna Baggott. I absolutely LOVED Pure, for so many reasons [read my review, the gushing is plain for all to see :D ] and even though Bex didn’t love it as much as I did, we both agreed this would be a great topic for discussion! The whole idea of being permanently FUSED to either a living thing or an inanimate object is quite intriguing – and creepy! So we figured this week for Your Fate in Fiction we’d ask:

If  you HAD to choose an object [animate or inanimate] to be fused to, what would you pick?

This is a tough question! I mean.. you think about it and whatever you pick you’re going to be PERMANENTLY attached to FOREVER. There’s no taking it off when it gets wearisome or annoying. It’ll become a part of your body as much as anything you were born with. So a lot to think about!

I definitely DO NOT want to fused with anything that is alive [although I seriously nearly died of laughter thinking of Bex fused with her little dog Dennis on her foot and him peeing on her other leg when he needed to go...because you know it'd be like "permanent post!" I think I just gave all of you a window into my crazy sense of humor and are probably all running for the hills..] OK, to be somewhat serious here, I’d want whatever I was fused to to be somewhat useful to me. So, I think I’ll go with a watch on my wrist.

A watch fused on my wrist would help me be able to tell time [assuming time still mattered in this new world and also assuming it continued to work.] It wouldn’t be something that was crippling to me. I could still use my limbs and wouldn’t affect my life TOO much. Maybe that’s a cop-out, but fusing is serious business! :)

So what about you?

If  you HAD to choose an object [animate or inanimate] to be fused to, what would you pick?

Slide Into Your Mind

Welcome to Bex @ Kindle Fever and I’s new blog feature: Your Fate in Fiction. Every other week we will be posing a question or a post inspired by a book. This post was inspired by Slide by Jill Hathaway. The main character Sylvia or “Vee” has the ability to “slide” into people’s minds when she holds an object of theirs that they’ve emotionally imprinted on – meaning felt some very strong feelings when they held or wore the object. So for today’s question:

Which object do you think could be used to slide into YOU? It can be anything you held or wore when feeling any strong emotion!

This is a tricky question! I’m sure there are plenty of things I own that I’ve left a strong emotional imprint on. I’m sure I own plenty of things that could qualify!

However, I think my nook would be a great object to hold to slide into my mind. I’ve felt such strong emotions with it. First when I GOT it, which was a completely unexpected surprise from a friend, the joy and excitement I felt was really strong. The thrill of booting it up and finding a letter waiting for me from my friend added to the fondness I have for it.

Then on top of THAT all the books I’ve read that have left me feeling a huge spectrum of emotions – thrilled, excited, anxious, mad, joyful.. I could go on and on really.

I think the second object that could definitely be used to slide into my mind is my class ring. I used to wear it all the time, it’s been on my finger for some very exciting times in my life.. and some sad. I wore it when I graduated and when I took some leaps in my life that were thrilling and daunting. I also was wearing it when my parents and I found out that my sister had passed away. I don’t think you can get too much more emotional of an imprint than that, sadly.

If someone got a hold of my nook or my class ring I think my mind would be invaded non-stop, and I think I’d just be happy they couldn’t read my mind…although I type and write out SO much that they’d be able to tell just about everything I was thinking anyway… which would be a scary prospect for the slider! :D

Which object do you think could be used to slide into YOU?
