Indigo Spell

In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch–a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood–or else she might be next.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, the Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive—this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.

Every time I think I can’t love the word Richelle Mead has created with Vampire Academy and now Bloodlines I read Indigo Spell and I fall even harder! I love how she takes all her characters on journeys, we discover them as they discover themselves. They’re not static characters, they grow and change and I love them for it, Indigo Spell is no different.

Sidney is definitely one of my favorite kick ass characters. She’s got the brain ad wisdom ad isn’t afraid to get her and dirty doing a little magic anymore. I love how she’s really coming into her own. Not letting people decide things for her or control her life, she’s bound and determined to blaze her own path – even if that means burning a few bridges. Not an easy decision by any stretch, but she’s doing it and you can’t help but feel pride.

It’s hard to believe just how far Sidney has come from when we first met her. I love the direction her character is going, but it’s also going to get nail biting suspenseful, all the lines she has to be careful to walk! And especially as we see how Indigo Spell ended, Fiery Heart will probably be the most intense book so far!

I can’t wait to get it in my hot little hands !

I was really afraid that all this Marcus Finch talk would have us dealing with a love triangle. I’m not an uber hater of love triangles but I was relieved Mead didn’t take that tack.

It’s so hard for me to gush appropriately and nt spoil things! So I’m just going to yell for all of you holding back on reading either the Vampire Academy or Bloodlines series – what on earth are you waiting for?!!

This weeks question:

Q.It’s that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?

I would love to be able to have either Harry Potter’s world or the world of Vampire Academy be a reality. I know, those are probably going to be really popular answers, but I totally love both worlds and they aren’t TOO much different than ours – just some supernatural and magical elements added in, so I don’t think it’d be too hard of an adjustment.

I mean who wouldn’t want to be able to go to a school for witchcraft and wizardry?? Or Vampire Academy.. :D SIGN ME UP!

Book Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Book Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

****If you have not read Vampire Academy series in FULL yet, you may not want to read anything about Bloodlines since there is a crucial plot point discussed that carries over from the VA series - Bloodlines takes off pretty much where VA left off, so I want to give everyone fair WARNING.****

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Alchemist Sydney Sage is sent to a private boarding school on assignment to protect the vampire Queen’s only living relative, Jill Dragomir. According to ancient vampiric law, their ruler cannot remain as head if they do not have any family, with Jill under threat, the Moroi and the Alchemists work together to forge a plan for her safety.

Sydney is not only given the responsibility of keeping everyone safe but also forced to adapt to her new social environment: high school with all of its drama.

Can Sydney walk the fine line between keeping the vampires safe and avoid becoming a traitor in the eyes of the alchemists who consider vampires soulless and unnatural? As the temperature of Palm Springs rises so does the tension, will Sydney be the one to get burned?

This is one review I am going to have a hard time not SQUEEING about; I mean this is Bloodlines from the same world as Vampire Academy we’re talking about here! OK. Now onto the rest of the review. :D

I am so happy that Mead chose to continue a series within the same world as Vampire Academy. I seriously love this world she has created. I wouldn’t mind living in it – as I mentioned in this past Follow Friday post.

I loved all the characters Mead included in Bloodlines. The characters she chose to bring over to this series are all people I wanted to get to know better from Vampire Academy. With Rose and Lissa not the focus, these characters were able to shine and we learn more about their personalities. I was also thrilled at the “cameo” appearances of some of the characters from VA in Bloodlines.

I’m torn on whether to recommend people read Vampire Academy FIRST or just go straight to Bloodlines and then work your way through the VA series. I was able to solve some of the mysteries in Bloodlines a little TOO early on because I’d read VA. So, in that regard, it would’ve been nice to be a little more “in the dark” about some things. However, there were several references to other characters from VA and you won’t understand them or feel that JOY of the cameo appearances, if you don’t read VA first.  I’m definitely torn on that aspect.

I loved the twist at the end, and what it means for the next book – which I was dying to get my hands on as soon as I finished Bloodlines! I also LOVED Sydney and learning about her world and all it entails since the Alchemists have their own society and leadership separate from the vampires.

All in all, I cannot WAIT to read more and I want to thank Razorbill from the bottom of my Vampire Academy loving heart for providing me with an early reviewer’s copy.

Bloodlines is available:

Amazon / B&N / Penguin | Razorbill / Richelle Mead’s Website

The next book in the Bloodlines series – The Golden Lily – is up on Amazon!

This weeks question:

Q. If you could write yourself a part in a book, what book would it be and what role would you play in that book?

This is SUCH a hard question to answer! I think I would probably write myself into a series like Harry Potter or Vampire Academy. Although I wouldn’t want to be a main character, I’d want to be just one of the students. For Vampire Academy I’d want to be a Moroi I think, because the guardians have to be hyper-vigilant and on the watch 24/7 to protect their charges. I love those two worlds, and all they entail.
