Waiting on Wednesday

hosted by Breaking the Spine

The Archived by Victoria Schwab looks amazingtastic! First I was drawn in by the title – it makes me think of books. Then that key on the cover (am I the only one who has a huge thing for skeleton keys?) It makes me think creeptasticness is in store for me if I read it. After I read the synopsis that TOTALLY seals the deal. Added to my wish list – check, check and double check! I LOVE books about books and this sounds like a twist on that, amazingastic, creeptastic and wonderful in general! :D

The Archived Victoria Schwab

Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.

Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive. Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was: a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often-violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.

Being a Keeper isn’t just dangerous—it’s a constant reminder of those Mac has lost. Da’s death was hard enough, but now that her little brother is gone too, Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself might crumble and fall.

In this haunting, richly imagined novel, Victoria Schwab reveals the thin lines between past and present, love and pain, trust and deceit, unbearable loss and hardwon redemption.

This weeks question:

Q. Go count the number of unread books sitting on your shelf. How many?

Wow, this is actually really hard. I have many “shelves” – I’m sure we all do, especially in this day and age of ereaders where we have virtual shelves. I’ve got a ton of unread books on my virtual shelves, probably more than I’d like to admit..hehe.. But I’m actually nerdy to keep a spreadsheet of all my to-read books, yeah you read that right, I have spreadsheet! Although it’s not entirely accurate at the moment because I haven’t added the ebooks I got as gifts and bought for myself over the holidays :D

So looking at my spreadsheet I have 47 physical books (assuming it’s up to date..) and 105 ebooks – which I know the ebook tally is wrong since I haven’t updated that yet. People walk into my room and immediately call it a library – I say “I’m not too bad!” :D

I should also mention I actually only have a very small area that could legitimately be called a “shelf” most of my physical books are stacked on a bench underneath my TV because my “shelf” is already stacked with books two high and there’s no room! haha

Happy Friday People!

This is the second In My Mailbox vlog (well, my version of a vlog) for My Shelf Confessions, I hope you enjoy it! I have fun making these and everyone seems to like them, they take a lot more work than a simple post, so I will save them for when what I get in the mail is really cool! (Which we can hope is all the time, right?) haha :D

This weeks question:

Q. In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question “comes out of the closet” and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

I am going to take this question to mean what mythical creature would we like to see “come out” to the world and reveal that they do in fact exist. In which case, I would really like to see a fairy or a unicorn. I think fairies are beautiful and I’d picture them to be so small and fluttery, maybe they are butterfly like and we see them all the time and don’t even know it. Unicorns are also SO cool, although I think fairies would be easier to conceal themselves for so long, and unicorns probably would’ve been spotted a long time ago, it’d be awesome to see them in their splendor.

Today I’m also participating in a fun new meme called Top Spot in which you post your favorite book(s) of the month and link up so that other people can hop around and see what books everyone loves!
