Slide Into Your Mind
Welcome to Bex @ Kindle Fever and I’s new blog feature: Your Fate in Fiction. Every other week we will be posing a question or a post inspired by a book. We invite others to join in the fun – answer the question in the comments or make a blog post of your own and link it in the comments so we can visit!
This post was inspired by Slide by Jill Hathaway. The main character Sylvia or “Vee” has the ability to “slide” into people’s minds when she holds an object of theirs that they’ve emotionally imprinted on – meaning felt some very strong feelings when they held or wore the object. So for today’s question:
Which object do you think could be used to slide into YOU? It can be anything you held or wore when feeling any strong emotion!
This is a tricky question! I’m sure there are plenty of things I own that I’ve left a strong emotional imprint on. I’m sure I own plenty of things that could qualify!
However, I think my nook would be a great object to hold to slide into my mind. I’ve felt such strong emotions with it. First when I GOT it, which was a completely unexpected surprise from a friend, the joy and excitement I felt was really strong. The thrill of booting it up and finding a letter waiting for me from my friend added to the fondness I have for it.
Then on top of THAT all the books I’ve read that have left me feeling a huge spectrum of emotions – thrilled, excited, anxious, mad, joyful.. I could go on and on really.
I think the second object that could definitely be used to slide into my mind is my class ring. I used to wear it all the time, it’s been on my finger for some very exciting times in my life.. and some sad. I wore it when I graduated and when I took some leaps in my life that were thrilling and daunting. I also was wearing it when my parents and I found out that my sister had passed away. I don’t think you can get too much more emotional of an imprint than that, sadly.
If someone got a hold of my nook or my class ring I think my mind would be invaded non-stop, and I think I’d just be happy they couldn’t read my mind…although I type and write out SO much that they’d be able to tell just about everything I was thinking anyway… which would be a scary prospect for the slider!
