Cameo and the Vampire is Available: AMAZON | B&N

For those of you unfamiliar with Cameo and her story, you can read my review of the first book in the Trilogy of Shadows: Cameo the Assassin.

You can also get familiar with Cameo from one of my favorite character interviews of all time: Dawn Interviews Cameo and Black Opal

Cameo the Assassin   Book 1 in the Trilogy of Shadows: Cameo the Assassin

The Kingdom of Sieunes is rife with taverns, dirty streets, and clay pipe smoking citizens all toiling to feed their families and keep themselves in something little better than rags. With a foiled revolution just ten years prior still burning in the hearts of many, the royals enlist the aid of assassins to keep things in order. The townsfolk entertain themselves by dreaming of better times to come and regaling in stories of the undead said to walk the graveyards at night. . . and of Cameo the killer with corpse-like eyes. . .Scarred and jaded Cameo is one of the most effective assassins in the employ of the Association, moving from one mission to the next as long as the alcohol keeps flowing. Her acceptance of the murder-for-hire lifestyle is thrown into doubt when she meets a local highwayman with a penchant for fine clothes and women, and then she begins to think about breaking with the company but no one ever breaks with the Association under good terms.

Cameo and the HighwaymanBook 2 in the Trilogy of Shadows: Cameo and the Higthwayman

Cameo, the hard drinking assassin, Black Opal the silver-tongued highwayman and Kyrian the innocent young acolyte journey to Shandow with a mission from Cameo’s vampire master. Along the way Cameo is ambushed by the other vampire, who it seems, has been waiting for her. Black Opal is plunged into danger as his past is revealed, and he is forced to face his demons head-on. An old nemesis returns, and Cameo must make a choice that will cost her the last shred of humanity she has left.

Acoustic CafeAcoustic Cafe

My favorite place to haunt while I write is the Acoustic Cafe in downtown Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I LOVE that place! The people who work there are always so nice, and they play awesome music there (loads of Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, etc…my favorite “mood” music!). Every time I go, I get their Texas Chili and my favorite coffee ever, their Turtle Mocha. It’s actually kind of sad, because some of the people who work there know me now. The one manager actually is awesome and takes my son for me sometimes and walks with him if he gets fussy. The cafe is just full of great people, and it’s an awesome place to people watch. Before my son, I could sit there and write for hours on end. Now it’s a little tougher to get a solid writing session in, but when I get time to get away, I always go to Acoustic Cafe. :)

Mini Interview

What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever had to research or look up for your writing?

Honestly, trying to find all the Irish lore was tricky but fun at the same time. Sifting through all the potential myths I could use was fun, but there were some really odd ones! Naming characters is always fun, but sometimes odd. I hit a lot of baby name sites to find good ones. The names my husband vetoed for our son get used a lot, actually. :)

Do you listen to music while you write? If so, any particular artist or band?

I do listen to music when I write! It is very abstract, and I tend to listen to music that I feel is pushing the characters. When I wrote BRIDGER, I felt like Ashlyn came through much better when I listened to Paramore, so that got played a lot. Snow Patrol was another one for BRIDGER. For FORBIDDEN, I had a lot of The Black Keys, Muse, and My Chemical Romance. The characters kind of give me their personalities, and I roll with it. If “I” get to choose, I listen to Bon Iver, Iron & Wine, Bob Marley, and Muse. :)

When not writing what are a few of your favorite things to do?

I spend most of my time with my son, Carter, but hobbies I enjoy are snowboarding and playing the xBox with my brother. He’s a couple states away, so we’ll link up and play Call of Duty once in a while and catch up. I enjoy that a lot.

What are a few of your favorite blogs?

There are so many that are great!! I read a lot of agents’ blogs, because I like to hear their take on the industry, even though I’m an indie author. I read Colleen Lindsay’s quite a bit, as well as Ms. Gardner’s. As for book bloggers, you are all so awesome. I love hearing the opinions of what works and what doesn’t in a story, because I feel like that gives me so much to go on for future books and how I can become a better writer for the people who are most important: my readers!!! :) So thank you all for reading and blogging. We writers really do pay attention. :)

Bridger by Megan Curd

Ashlyn McVean doesn’t believe in fairy tales. That is, until Ashlyn is thrown into the crosshairs of grudges her grandmother created long ago. After finding out she is one of two people able to cross between faerie realms, Ashlyn is faced with trying to understand her abilities, along with navigating a new relationship with her boyfriend, Liam. As if being on a centuries old hit list and dealing with crazed pixies isn’t enough, her new abilities mean trouble for Liam. Knowing her new life puts everyone she loves in danger, Ashlyn must decide what’s most important in her life between friends, family, love, and ultimately, realms.

This is a weeky meme hosted by the ever awesome Parajunkee and Alison.
For details on how this meme works, be sure to click on the image above.
This weeks question:

Q.If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

Wow, I have so many different characters I love – but a lot of them I wouldn’t want to eat dinner with – because they are sort of villains (like the Grand High Witch of The Witches by Roald Dahl for instance..) but let’s see.. I would love to have dinner with Donna Parisi from Putting Makeup on Dead People, simply because she’s so down to earth and I would feel comfortable around her, I don’t think I could ever feel comfortable around say Hermione Granger or any of my other like.. character “idols” haha but Donna IS one of my fav characters BECAUSE of her down to earth personality. I’m not sure what I would serve for dinner.. nothing fancy, maybe I’d order Chinese takeout and we could sit in the living room and eat it and chat about whatever. :)

Top SpotTop Spot

My Top Spot for October is really, really hard – so I’m going to “cheat” and go with my Top 2 favorites.

Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
My teaser this week comes from The Time in Between by Maria Duenas.

The Time in Between by Maria Duenas

I decided to transform myself, and my choice was to adopt thea appearance of a woman who was solid, solvent, experienced. I’d have to fight hard to get my ignorance mistaken for haughtiness, my uncertainty for sweet apathy, for no one to suspect my fears, hidden in the firm tread of a pair of high heels and a look of confident determination.
