Blog Hop for Japan Giveaway!

As we all know, the Japanese people are going through a lot right now. This is our small effort to help out. All donations go directly to Shelterbox. With Shelterbox it’s ALL about The Box, I was AMAZED at how much goes into a box, and how beneficial they are already proving to be in Japan.
Here is your chance to win some cool stuff while helping a great cause!
Our goal is $2000!
What we’re giving away:

1 signed copy of Cameo the Assassin
1 signed copy of Cameo the Highwayman
both graciously donated by Dawn McCullough-White
and 1 Barnes & Noble gift card for $10
If we reach our goal of $2500 then I will draw 2 winners – the first winner will receive everything mentioned above, the second winner will win a $10 B&N gift card or their choice of $10 book from the Book Depository.
If you’re international then I will buy the book of your choice via the Book Depository, as long as it’s $10 or under. :)
Must be older than 13 to enter.
You don’t need to do anything to enter except fill out the form. However, there are several ways to earn extra entries – and since this giveaway is all about spreading the love and earning as much for Shelterbox as possible, you guessed it, tweeting and posting and facebooking are all options!
Psst.. I just got a Twitter account too, so I’d love you to friend me there if you want! :) @shelfconfessions
Extra entries possible:
Tweet about this giveaway, provide link to tweet on form. (+1)
Share or post about this on Facebook. (+1)
For every dollar you donate you earn (+1) If you donate $20 or more, you get to double your entries. If you’ve donated at any of the other hop sites, THAT COUNTS! We are all using the same widget, the money is all going the same place, so even though it’d be awesome if you donated at each stop of the hop, we realize that’s not feasible for most people! :)
Example: You Tweet (+1)

Donated $20 (+20)
(1 + 1 + 20) x 2 = 44!

*Note, if you donate more than $20 you only get to double your entries once.

Just fill out the form! :)

Library-Loving Blog Challenge!

I just discovered via Twitter (yes, I have finally taken the plunge, and I’m still a little scared and skittish, so if you see weird tweets going around with the wrong tags or something, just know they come from a complete NEWB LOL)If you’re interested in friending me, I’m @ shelfconfession over there :)

Anyways, there is a great blog challenge going on and YOU can help a library (or several) by participating. The one blog I visited all you had to do was write a comment and the host blog makes a donation to their public library – how cool is that! There are several other blogs participating, so I plan on taking the tour myself and getting in on the fun.

Go to: Jennifer R. Hubbard’s blog and see what it’s all about and get in on the action – it’s for libraries, you gotta love that!

Make sure to come back on April 1st when the Stand for Japan blog hop begins! Awesome prizes, even greater cause!

I guess my mailbox was a little more full than I thought it was this week, wow! My TBR shelf is just growing by leaps and bounds, pretty soon it will be considered one of the wonders of the world, people will come and look for miles around and wonder how in the world someone could possibly acquire all these books.. and I will point to my computer and blame it all on my Toshiba and the world wide web for making it all possible!!

Happy reading, can’t wait to see what everyone else has got this week :)

Review: Phantom Evil by Heather Graham

Review: Phantom Evil by Heather Graham

Phantom Evil (Krewe of Hunters, #1)Phantom Evil by Heather Graham

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In Phantom Evil, Jackson Crow is an investigator in the Behavioral Sciences Unit in DC has been on leave since his last assignment ended in the tragic deaths of 3 team mates. Adam Harrison, a government insider (working either alone or unofficially), especially in cases of “extreme weirdness” offers Crow a job heading up a new team, and their first case takes them to a New Orleans mansion with an infamous past that is supposedly haunted. Most recently, Regina Hollow, wife of the well-liked Senator Holloway, fell from her bedroom balcony to her death. Crow’s team – a motley crew from all walks of life and interests, but all with special gifts of their own – is given the task of proving or disproving the existence of ghosts in the house and figuring out the mystery behind Regina’s unexpected death. With no lack of suspects – including a cult and a group of Aryans, Regina’s death may not be all that it appears.

I found the whole premise of Phantom Evil intriguing. I love books set in New Orleans’ mansions, especially the haunted variety. The house has a very interesting history that slowly unfolds as you read, and I loved other aspects of the story as well – namely the romance that builds between two of the characters. I also enjoyed learning about each of the team members and what their specialties were and seeing them all become fast friends. It had all the elements I usually love in a story.. but for whatever reason, and I really can’t put a finger on it, I just had a hard time getting INTO the book. It took me longer to read than it normally would have, and that’s when I realized I was having trouble keeping focused on it. There are really no obvious flaws to point out, nothing that I hated; so I think it was just a case of me reading it at the wrong time. I learned that this is the first in a new series, and I will be reading the second book, because I did like all the characters, and I hope that the next book will be a little more action packed and hold my interest a little more.

All in all, I give Phantom Evil 3 stars because I did like it, it just wasn’t the fabulous book I was expecting from the premise. However, this is the first Heather Graham book I’ve read and I do plan on reading her other books, and I recommend this book for anyone who loves a mystery – or books set in New Orleans.

**Galley graciously provided by Harlequin, however the opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.

Today’s featured question is:

What are 5 silly book related facts about you?

Let’s see..

1) Now that I have a nook, I get slightly annoyed at having to turn ACTUAL pages when I read a paper book – I know, I am sort of an ebook spoiled brat now! :)

2) I buy books even though I have tons – like every other book-a-holic; that’s why we’re considered addicts, right?

3) The first chapter book I fell in love with was The Witches by Roald Dahl, when I was little, I loved that book so much I used to read it to myself over and over, and then decided that I would tape myself reading it – so I could have myself on cassette tape. Although I am such a perfectionist that I had to keep going back over it and so I finally quit. LOL

4) Ever since I’ve learned to read on my own I have never been able to stand listening to other people read to me – unless I have a book of my own in front of me, so I can follow along. I don’t know what that is about, something with how my brain perceives information, it’s easier for me to take it in if I have words to look at too. However, my mother swears I would sit on her lap for hours listening to her read to me, I think I was probably trying to figure out what the words were she was reading to get a jump start so I could do it by myself ASAP! :D

5) I am such a chicken when it comes to horror movies, but I can read scary stories no problem, case in point the book I’m reading now – Let Me In, which is also a movie, I know I will NEVER be able to watch the movie, but I can read the book just fine!

Question: “If you could physically put yourself into a book or series.. which would it be and why?

I think my most recent fav series has to be Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.. I just love that world, it’s enough like ours to be comfortable, and yet different enough with magic and other unusual things to make it interesting! I just love those characters too, so I would enter the world of the Moroi, and yes, even the Strigoi (I’d find a friend like Rose to kick Strigoi butt though LOL) :D

Looking forward to seeing everyone responses – Happy Friday & Happy Reading!
