My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Last Sacrifice being the final book in the Vampire Academy series, I took my time reading it, trying to make it last as long as possible. I have enjoyed the series so much, I am sad to see it come to an end. Although I was happy to read the author’s note at the end of the book mentioning possible upcoming books – perhaps not with the same characters but in the same “world.” I am crossing my fingers for that!

I don’t want to give away any real details because this is the final book and I’m going to assume most people have not read the previous books. I hate spoiling things for people.

I really liked this book, I loved the direction the author took things and how the story ended. I wasn’t disappointed at all. Last Sacrifice has depth, it poses questions – all the books in the series do – but this last one was the most serious, in my opinion.

Particularly the issue of insanity. Are we responsible for things we do while we are in the grip of insanity?

Also, how far are we willing to go for “the greater good” – even if it means hurting people in the meantime?

All in all, this was a great series. I really liked all the books, the characters were excellent and it was fun seeing them develop. I’m looking forward to reading anything else Richelle Mead writes in the future.

Upcoming Book Reviews

I’m so excited! I recently signed up to become a member of NetGalley, which is a website that brings readers and publishers together. Publishers offer titles of soon-to-be released books to prospective readers for review.

Today I found out by email that 3 of my book requests were accepted and I will be receiving advanced ebook copies of the following books, courtesy of Harlequin:

One Hundred Candles by Mara Purnhagen
Phantom Evil by Heather Graham
The Restorer by Amanda Stevens

Click on the author names to go to their websites.

I’m really excited to be part of this process, and to get a sneak peak of a few books who haven’t made their way to the bookstore shelves yet.

As soon as I’m finished reading the 6th book in the Vampire Academy series I will be reading one of these beauties!

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, #5)Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Spirit Bound being the 5th book in the Vampire Academy series, I have to admit it was the hardest for me to read. It’s not that I disliked the book, I thought it was very good. The subject matter was just hard for me because it was so nerve wracking. There is also a lot more political intrigue in this one. I guess I can say it wasn’t as “fun” to read as the others because it was a lot more serious. Even though Mead did a great job keeping things from getting too dark by keeping the characters true to themselves, especially Rose and Christian who are very witty and sarcastic. You can’t help but smile, even when they are in an extreme situation.

Unlike the other books, Spirit Bound ended on a clear cliff-hanger, so I was glad to have the 6th book on hand right away.

This was probably the most intense of all the Vampire Academy books so far, again I am struck at how much more depth this series has when compared to the Twilight series (in my opinion, of course.) I feel so much more emotionally attached to these characters.

I’ve already started the 6th book and I am eagerly awaiting the conclusion to the series.. and yet I know I am going to feel that loss I always feel at the end of a great series journey. Perhaps, I will get lucky and the 6th book will not be the final book, but instead there will be more to come. I don’t know for sure because I haven’t wanted to spoil anything for myself, so I’ve stayed away from any information regarding the series, especially book 6.

Once again, I can’t recommend this series enough, especially to vampire fiction lovers, fantasy seekers, thrill hunters, or people looking for a little bit of everything – even romance.

Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, #4)Blood Promise by Richelle Mead

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 4 in the Vampire Academy Series

Like all the other books so far in the Vampire Academy series, I enjoyed Blood Promise and couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. However, because of Blood Promise’s particular story line it was difficult to read sometimes. There is such intense emotions and I felt so sympathetic for the characters and what they were going through. I don’t want to say anything specific because I don’t want to spoil anything, especially for anyone who has not read the previous books. This one was a real gut-twister though. I was sort of glad how it ended though.. once again the ending was completely unexpected to me.

The more I get into the series, the more I love the characters. I am going to be really sad to turn that last page in the series and know I will no longer get to see them grow and develop and know what is going on in their world. But fortunately, there are 2 more books in the series (that I know of, unless there are more coming after the books that are already out, which is what I’m hoping for!)

I think overall, I love how even though certain parts of Blood Promise are far-fetched (but really, what fantasy series isn’t?) the characters themselves are very real, they are not perfect, each one of them has flaws and different quirks, likes and dislikes and each of them is so well written that they feel real. Like you could meet them on the street sometime and have a conversation with them. I like that feeling and it makes the books THAT much better.

I can’t recommend these books enough, especially for people who are interested in urban fantasy, fantasy, vampires, the undead, suspense, even fantasy-political-intrigue! There’s a little bit of everything, including romance, but the romance while adding dimension to the books, isn’t so overpowering as to turn people off (and I’m not a real romance lover myself.)

In short, if you’re looking for a new series to get immersed in – don’t hesitate! :)
